Situated and bounded on the north by Agusan del Norte, on the south by Compostela Valley and Davao del Norte, on the east by Surigao del Sur and on the west by Misamis Oriental and Bukidnon. This province comprises fourteen municipalities, seven (7) of which are located along Maharlika highway namely: Sibagat, Bayugan, Prosperidad, San Francisco, Rosario, Bunawan and Trento. The other seven (7) are as follows: Esperanza, San Luis, Talacogon, La Paz, Loreto, Sta. Josefa and Veruela are along the Agusan river.</div><br />
<div align="justify">People-most of the original native residents came from the three tribes, the Manobos, Higaonons, and the Banwaons. These tribes eventually came from their ethnic origins, the Negritoes and Mamanwas who originally occupies the heavily forested Agusan del Sur a long time ago. From the three tribes, a number of them still exist in the innermost barangays of forested area in the far municipalities of this province.</div><a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<div align="justify">And now due to its progressing development towards becoming more productive province due to its resources, many settlers from other parts of our country have had their investments, trades, and services on this province. Intermarriages between the natives or locals and the settlers resulted to assorted ethnic groups.Today on this province consisting of mixed filipino-breed, on the innermost forested area the native manobo language still exist but cebuano is the dominant spoken dialect within the locality. Tagalog and English language are commonly used on schools.<br />
<br />
Agusan del Sur is the place it is and the term 'Agsur' is the shortcut name to some commoners of this place. </div><img align="left" alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="687" mce_src="http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt251/clicksource/Agusan-01-02-Map1A.jpg" src="http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt251/clicksource/Agusan-01-02-Map1A.jpg" width="515" /><br />

Really vast as in about 15% of Philippines’ water resources this holds. Comprising of freshwater marshes and shallow lakes and ponds, numerous of these wetlands were converted into fish ponds and rice paddies. The site acts as storage for rain water and reduces the immediate downstream flow of flood water into Butuan City and other population centers.<br />

But what the place is much worth visiting and seeing for are Birds to watch, River Cruising and Fishing. During rainy seasons here and coming winter time on our neighboring foreign countries migratory birds such as Purple Heron, Spotted Imperial Pigeon, Silvery Kingfisher, Celestial Monarch, Rufous-lored Kingfisher, Sarus Crane can be found taking refuge and nesting.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />

Other living wonders also present are Purple Swamp Hen, Wild Duck, Heron, Philippine Hawk Eagle, Philippine Duck, , Soft-shelled Freshwater Turtle and Freshwater Crocodile.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_-Jo6bzfMizA/S3AluFsCMWI/AAAAAAAAAGM/kmrPToOienU/s1600-h/bunawanstart.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="2" height="212" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_-Jo6bzfMizA/S3AluFsCMWI/AAAAAAAAAGM/kmrPToOienU/s320/bunawanstart.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">River boat (at left) use for group tour </div><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Now ways to get there? Easy, you’ll have to be in our country Philippines either in Butuan or Davao city. From Butuan city Bus terminal take a bus route to Davao city and drop at Bunawan Bus terminal(about 2.5 hrs travel time for non-aircon & 2hrs for aircon). And if from Davao go to Ecoland bus terminal and take the route for Butuan but drop down at Bunawan bus terminal(4hrs estimated travel for non-aircon only).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_-Jo6bzfMizA/S3Amo1FquOI/AAAAAAAAAGQ/mPQrw7FHbYc/s1600-h/bus1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="1" height="160" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_-Jo6bzfMizA/S3Amo1FquOI/AAAAAAAAAGQ/mPQrw7FHbYc/s200/bus1.JPG" width="200" /></a><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_-Jo6bzfMizA/S3AmpCW41fI/AAAAAAAAAGU/1kEa3s-gZn4/s1600-h/bus.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="1" height="160" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_-Jo6bzfMizA/S3AmpCW41fI/AAAAAAAAAGU/1kEa3s-gZn4/s200/bus.JPG" width="200" /></a></div><br />
<br />
From Bunawan bus terminal take a tricycle ride to the municipal hall-tourism for log-in, any queries-info and assistance on your tour to agusan marshland. It is best to be there on or before noontime for a better pre-arrangement. This is for your convenience and safer travel. There are lodging rooms at the town if ever you arrived late.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_-Jo6bzfMizA/S3AuqaHKhTI/AAAAAAAAAGk/q7cQQOmYsDQ/s1600-h/ecotourfloatingcenter.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="2" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_-Jo6bzfMizA/S3AuqaHKhTI/AAAAAAAAAGk/q7cQQOmYsDQ/s1600/ecotourfloatingcenter.jpg" /></a></div><br />
And on to marshland there’s an eco-tour floating center where you could stay and spend the night. Though travel light, better to bring with you your sleeping bag and flashlight…all you hear through the night is the concert sound of birds- a good music to sleep.</div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3483317724761919744.post-5964464884596591992010-01-22T11:10:00.000-08:002010-02-11T22:00:41.939-08:00Festivals in Agusan del Sur<span style="font-size: large;"><b>Agusan del Sur Festivities..</b></span><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">Thirteen years ago when I first step and started to settle on this province the municipalities were not that populated, there was not much structural buildings constructed, and not much places to see except for the already existing nature that are a tourist spot and the yearly celebrated festivals. With that and among other things here are...</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">The important all-year round festivities such as the Kaamulan Festival which is held every September 23 and it showcases the authentic tribal performances and/or rituals by the tribal priests. </div><br />
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_-Jo6bzfMizA/S1sficcXLDI/AAAAAAAAADQ/hp-fkCQUGj4/s1600-h/kaamulan-festival-2009.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5429968452336430130" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_-Jo6bzfMizA/S1sficcXLDI/AAAAAAAAADQ/hp-fkCQUGj4/s320/kaamulan-festival-2009.jpg" style="cursor: pointer; display: block; height: 261px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 320px;" /></a><br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">Another festival is the Naliyagan Festival which is celebrated every June 12 to 17 in Prosperidad, this festival depicts Agusanon culture and heritage with natives showing off their tribal dances and rituals. A trade fair also takes place during the festival. During the week of Naliyagan celebration there are Motocross racing show, banca race, rock band competition, fireworks during the night and beauty contest for the year’s miss naliyagan. These are all held at the government center of patin-ay, prosperidad</div><br />
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_-Jo6bzfMizA/S1sgB0xJucI/AAAAAAAAADY/ncWcz3NvPKI/s1600-h/1_661091716l.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5429968991442024898" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_-Jo6bzfMizA/S1sgB0xJucI/AAAAAAAAADY/ncWcz3NvPKI/s320/1_661091716l.jpg" style="cursor: pointer; display: block; height: 239px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 320px;" /></a><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">There is also a celebration of Kahimunan Festival during the first Sunday of January in Bayugan municipality and this is like a version of Sinulog in Cebu. The festival highlights street dancing portraying tribal life in Agusan Del Sur. Lastly is the Santikan Festival which is celebrated every June 12 to 15 annually in Trento municipality which offers various friendly competitions. </div><br />
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_-Jo6bzfMizA/S1sg7MpHtyI/AAAAAAAAADg/FiES-vdGAog/s1600-h/santikan.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5429969977103333154" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_-Jo6bzfMizA/S1sg7MpHtyI/AAAAAAAAADg/FiES-vdGAog/s320/santikan.jpg" style="cursor: pointer; display: block; height: 240px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 320px;" /></a><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">Another yearly celebrated festival is the Angot Festival on this province capital town, Prosperidad. This festivity is annually performed on 28th day of September during the town Fiesta in honor of St. Michael the Archangel, the Patron Saint of Prosperidad. Angot is characterized by a ritual called “bat-ad”. The ritual is usually performed by a babaylan, a well-respected faith-healing old man in the village. Bat-ad is an offering of food to Angot or Ompo, the god of abundant harvest, which includes a plate of rice, a boiled egg, broiled mudfish, a white wine and a mama. After the ritual, all villagers join together for a merry-making. Angot means “a thanksgiving ritual for the abundant harvest”.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_-Jo6bzfMizA/S3TtmyNHnsI/AAAAAAAAAGs/L1Rp1JuyHyw/s1600-h/angot2a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"> <img border="0" height="116" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_-Jo6bzfMizA/S3TtmyNHnsI/AAAAAAAAAGs/L1Rp1JuyHyw/s200/angot2a.jpg" width="200" /></a><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_-Jo6bzfMizA/S3Ttm3bJ2cI/AAAAAAAAAGo/vBQ4GJpEZBY/s1600-h/angot3a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="122" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_-Jo6bzfMizA/S3Ttm3bJ2cI/AAAAAAAAAGo/vBQ4GJpEZBY/s200/angot3a.jpg" width="200" /></a></div><br />

Reality shows the typical scenes you can find here. Usually these cast of images can only be found mostly on third world countries. We’re part of it anyway. These are not unique here in the Philippines. … Have you seen like these in your places?<br />
